“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nation, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.”Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like stream in the Negev! Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:1-6 (NIV)
What if I told you Joy may not just be a matter of your temperament? What if I told you Joy is more than you choosing it?
This scripture brought so much insight for me. “Fortune” in this context of scripture relates to or parallels to the meaning of the word “restored.”
When God gets a hold of your life he begins a transformational work. Just like what he was doing in Zion and Jerusalem. He was restoring their Joy.
“When God restores us to a restored situation.”
From the moment you came to being. God has had a plan for your life. He desires you to know him in your weeping and pain as much as in your victories and health.
“Negeb” in verse 4 was a “parched or dry land.” God meets us in our dryness and restores our joy.
This laughter He speaks of is also not just a little chuckle!! It’s a laugh so hard you almost pee your pants or cry your makeup off.
How do you have this secret of Joy?
You seek God. He is our RESTORER! He doesn’t just want to make your morning more chipper or your evening more peaceful. God wants to restore your life. This type of restoration brings a joy that stands any trial or difficult circumstance.
So there is the secret, now go whisper it to those you love!
